Our Tiny Airbnb Home
In Penticton

Penticton, BC. May 28, 2023

We’ve had our eyes on this charming tiny home on Airbnb for a while now. Perched on top of a mountain, it seemed like the perfect getaway. Finally, we found some time off to check it out. This property is located in Penticton, a place we’ve actually never visited before (Yes, shocking since we’ve been living in BC for 23 years!). It was the perfect opportunity to explore our own backyard.

The drive from our home in New Westminster to the Airbnb took almost 8 hours. We made several stops along the way, including Fort Langley, Ikeda Japanese Garden, and Okanagan Lake. Without these stops, the drive would have been much quicker, around 4 hours.

There are no street lights on this side of the hill, so it’s best to arrive before dark. Fortunately, the place is easy to find, thanks to a large wooden sign that’s visible from the street, confirming we had arrived at the right spot.

After enterting the gate, we just drive along the narrow pathways leading into the compound, eventually arriving at the main house. The main house itself boasts a distinctive architectural style with interesting shapes. It’s supported by large wooden beams and has plenty of reflective glass that ensure privacy. A pretty cool looking house!

This is where our gracious hosts, Geoff and Kate, welcomed us warmly. They are such a lovely and friendly couple. They showed us the amenities around the main house and guided us to our tiny hut so we could unload our belongings before it got too dark.

Directly opposite of the mainhouse, just a bit down the hill, is where our airbnb home is. From there, we have a sweeping view of Penticton. Being on top of the hill, we can see for miles, with the sky stretching endlessly above us. It was such a serene and captivating sight.

We were in awe of the view, but we didn’t have much time to explore the area just yet, as we were focused on settling in. Walking towards our hut, carrying our stuff back and forth, we just had to stop form time to time to take in the beauty of this place. The sunset was absolutely stunning.

Our cabin was incredible! It was small and simply but very cozy. We wanted to blend in with nature while still enjoying some the creature comforts, and this cabin was exactly what we needed – simple yet comfortable. There’s an outhouse that’s meant to be convenient for guests to use at night, but we find it a bit creepy. It makes creaky sounds at night when the wind blows the door. We prefer to go up to the mainhouse and use the washroom there.

Inside, there was a comfortable queen-size bed, a small table, and a small bench, that’s it. The cabin had large glass windows to enjoy the view.

There was no electricity, so the only light came from outside. With no curtains, we basked in the natural light during the day, but most of the time, we’re out and about in the town anyways. We enjoyed waking up naturally with the sunlight, something we rarely get to do in the city. The Wi-Fi from the main house didn’t quite reach the cabin, making it feel like we were off the grid, but with some fancy amenities. It was just like glamping.

After we settled in, we took a shower in the main house. Geoff encouraged us to make use of the amenities around the property. My mind immediately went to the large, bowld-shaped firepit. I’m always drawn to bonfires – perhaps it’s the crackling sound, but something about it brings me a sense of peace, and I can sit by a fire for hours.

We spent the rest of the evening sitting by the fire, enjoying the view of Penticton below. We got to chill with Geoff a lil bit and had great conversation on how he designed and built the mainhouse and the tiny houses himself. He mentioned that the big beam thta supported the house came from recalimed wood that used to belong to department store that went out of business.

As the evening went on and we settled by the fire, we savored the wine we had brought from the city. Geordie, the cat, eventually made his apprearance, perhaps out of curiosity about the new faces, or just wanted to say hello. He is one of the hosts’s pets. There’s also a dog named Coady, whom we would meet later.

Sonia has always wanted an orange cat, so she was thrilled to see Geordie. Of course, we always keep a bag of cat treats in the car incase we ever meet a cat, and it came in handy today. Geordie was incredibly friendly and enjoyed spending time with us around the firepit.

It was time to bid Geordie a goodnight. The hosts kindly provided us with flashlights so we won’t trip over anything on our way back to our hut. I captured a photo of our hut at night with the main house illuminated in the background, creating a contrast between the lights and the surrounding darkness. It was a beautiful serene end to a memorable evening.

The next morning greeted us with a beautiful day and clear skies as far as the eye could see. We woke up pretty early and saw a family of deer coming around for their breakfast. They were quite close to us. They seemed unafraid of people in the here. We kept our distant to respect their space while taking a few photos, then moved on with our day. We had the chance to explore the beautiful area and get to know the lay of the land a bit better before heading out for some activities in Summerland later on.

We met Geordie the cat again, and he jumped onto Sonia’s lap. Sonia has grown attached to him. She can sit here all day with the cat and be perfectly happy. This trip turned into a bit of a cat therapy for her.

Funny story: while we were there, another guest was staying in the other tiny hut next to ours. That guest turned out to be none other than my collegue and the Vide President of FC Premium Live, Sebastien Enrique. He was there with his wife for their own getaway and we were pleasantly surprised to see familiar faces.

We had a great chat during our stay, but we forgot to take any photos together. The only picture I have is of him in the background of one of our photos. Anyways, I thought that was a funny coincidence that my boss was staying at the same accomodation at the same time.

There’s also a beautiful pond with koi fish that we get to feed each morning. This pond also features a man-made waterfall that creates soothing sounds whenever we’re here watching and feeding the fish. It adds to the tranquility of our experience.

We spent two incredibly relaxing nights here. The location on top of the mountain, surrounded by green grass and lush bushes,  is both beautiful and peaceful. It’s quite, allowing you think and be present in the moment. It’s romantic and captures the essence of nature, which we need from time to time to recover from our stressful city life. Sometimes we wonder if we could retire here one day.

The cost of renting this Airbnb is also quite reasonable. We spent a total of $331.19 CAD for the two nights, including tax and cleaning fees, which we found to be a great deal.

If you need a quick getaway that’s not too far from the city, we highly recommend Geoff and Kate’s Airbnb property in Penticton. We promised you’ll be happy you tried it.

If you’d like to try it yourself, here’s the link to their Airbnb. We’re not sponsored or paid in anyway; we just want to share this amazing experience and their wonderful hospitality.

We also have a short video on on our getaway here. Hope you enjoy it. 😊
