E-Scootering Along
Stanley Park Seawall
Vancouver, BC, February 17, 2024
It’s the middle of February, and it’s cold. Normally, I’d be spending my weekend wrapped up in a warm blanket at home, with my coffee or tea, diving into a good book or playing video games. But today, my wife had other plans. She cheerfully suggested, “Let’s go scootering around!” I replied with a firm “hard pass!”—no way was I freezing my butt off scootering outside in the dead of winter. Fast forward 45 minutes, and there we were, scooting around Stanley Park.
The sky was mostly cloudy, and it was a bit windy by the water. Despite the less-than-ideal weather, we were surprised to see a few people with bikes and e-scooters. I guess we’re not the only ones crazy enough to brave the cold! That said, The seawall in Stanley Park wasn’t too busy at all. It was actually pretty nice to get to ride our e-scooter with fewer people out. We, along with a few others, stopped to snap some photos of the majestic Lions Gate Bridge.
At some point, Nathan decided to ditch the scooter and run alongside his mom. He wanted to race her and see who was the fastest. Running not only helped him warm up a bit but also added an extra layer of fun to their outing. Watching these two play together, laughing and being active, brought me immense joy. Their energy and happiness were contagious, making the chilly day feel a lot warmer. It’s moments like these that remind me of the simple pleasures in life and the importance of family time.
At some point Nathan chose to run instead of riding the scooter with his mom. He wanted to race her and see whose the fastest. Running helps him to warm up a bit too. Looking these two play together, having fun and being active brings me a lot of joy.
We stopped by the Third Beach to take a short break and soak in the breathtaking view. Nathan was eager to explore the beach. He loves to search for clam shells and collect beautiful pebbles. It’s a wonderfully peaceful time, a chance to disconnect from the screens and reconnect with nature. The gentle sounds of the waves, the fresh sea breeze, and the simple joy of being together made it a moment to cherish.
After our short break, we continue scooting and passed by the Second Beach, although we didn’t stop this time. In the distance, Nathan spotted a bright red fire truck and asked if we could spend some time here. He was quite fascinated by the truck. So, we stopped at Ceperley Park playground to let him explore. Fun fact: According to the Parks Board, the fire truck was originally built in Toronto in 1928 and purchased by Vancouver Fire Rescue Service in 1967. The Parks Board bought it for a dollar when it was retired from service in 1967.
We arrived at Denman Street just in the late afternoon and decided to stop for a coffee and hot chocolate to warm up a bit. Navigating the city on the e-scooters is a bit challenging, with narrow roads and heavy traffic. But we were able to enjoy a beautiful sunset over English Bay before heading back to where we had parked our car.
My wife was right, as she always is. It turned out to be a fantastic day for scootering around the seawall. Despite the chilly weather, we had a wonderful family outing. If you ever looking for a leisurely place to ride your e-scooter, we highly recommend Stanley Park Seawall. It’s a perfect spot for a fun and relaxing family adventure.
